How we picked
Each tool had to be genuinely free, export a usable file without a watermark, and get a beginner to a finished result in a few clicks.
Tip: If you want to print the result rather than post it, pick a tool that exports STL - PNG effects can't be sliced.
Disclosure: AVDEB is our own tool, so we've placed it first for convenience. Every other pick was judged on the same criteria.
